Is your
student in need of an academic boost or additional challenges? Are
you
in need of a competent tutor for your student? I can help. Tutoring is
available in either your home or an area library depending upon my
current schedule.
I possess a wealth of resources, and can offer advice on ways in which
to use technology to enrich your student's learning experience, as
well
as help with study skills and basic organizational needs. I alter my
teaching style to match the needs of your student. With middle school
students,
I prefer to either focus on content area reading skills or on one specific
subject area and related study skills. Math is a speciality area of
mine.
I have spent the past five years tutoring and acting as an educational
consultant/parent advocate at IEP meetings. As a former sixth grade
teacher
in Jefferson County, I have taught all subject areas,
and have received the most recent training in Read/Write Connection
(Power-Writing),
Six-Traits of Writing, and the Best Practices in Teaching Mathematics.
I also possess a strong background in working with learning disabled,
attention different students, gifted students, and students diagnosed
with emotional difficulties. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and a M.A.
in
Information and Learning Technologies K-12 from the University of Colorado
at Denver. My Teacher Certification program was completed through Metro
State College and it remains current.
Tutoring is available for students in grades 5-8. The cost is $40/hour.
Please contact
me via
e-mail if you would like to set up a tutoring session, or if you
have further questions regarding the needs of your child. Please provide
a brief description of your student's needs ,as well as, the name of
the school your student attends. There is no charge for the first visit
to
determine the needs of your child
and to
evaluate if I can be of assistance.
I am also available as an educational consultant to help parents with
issues related to students with learning disabilities or other special
needs and to attend IEP or 504 meetings as a parent advocate. Many students
find success in the classroom through alternative instructional methods
or with specific support. Please click on the link at the right for more
information.
